Who am I?
I’m Bettie. I’m a mother, partner, student, storyteller and seeker (answers, peace, connection, clarity). I’m a former professional problem solver who still dabbles a bit in freelance and personal lifestyle and creative advice. I have a soft spot for babies, pocket dogs, and the smell of fresh baked goods. Despite my best intentions, I seem unable to keep even the hardiest of house plants alive, but that doesn’t stop me from continually and optimistically purchasing new ones. After years of struggling with the question about what kind of work I wanted to do in the world, I’m passionately pursuing a clinical masters degree in Classical Chinese Medicine, with an expected completion date of June 2019. With the little bit of time leftover from all the roles I play, I study the dharma, am slowly teaching myself to play the ukulele, and recently started learning roller derby with the Rose City Rollers Wreckers program.
What lights me up?
I love connecting with the gentle creative spirit and feel a tremendous amount of gratitude that I get to do that in both photography and medicine. I’m always searching for ways to bring both of these aspects together in my life. I love to tell visual stories but often struggle to find the right words to accompany them (which makes me especially bad at blogging and social media). I’m happiest when I’m shooting portraiture, breaking some rules and just showing up and seeing what unfolds. As a student of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and related modalities, I have cultivated a deeper connection to self and others and the patterns that reflect out in the universe and in our own bodies.
Drop me a line if you are interested in finding out more. I’d love to hear from you!
